WHAT TO EXPECT.

Anglers can expect to fish with a patient, personable guide, with intimate knowledge of the waterway and its fish. Sopris strives to provide an excellent experience on the water and that begins by working with exceptional guides. We only work with guides demonstrating a long track record of professional ability and experience on local water. We believe this elevates our service and provides you with a superior experience. People of all ability levels can expect to catch fish. Some trips are more about catching and some trips are more about learning and instruction. Most full day trips begin around 8am in the summer and 9am or later during the cooler months. If you are on a half or three quarter day, we can plan around your schedule or for when the fishing is best. We can discuss your preferences for where and when we will fish when you book your trip. My enthusiasm for what I do translates directly into your experience on the water and I aim to make it a good one. Our goal is to have fun, enjoy a day on the water and put as many fish in the net as possible!

ABOUT THE OWNER, CHRIS KISH.

I began guiding back in 1996 here in the beautiful Roaring Fork Valley. I will never forget those early days, and the people and water that fueled my passion to go fishing. I am forever grateful to my father for teaching me how to fish, and for instilling in me those values that every outdoorsman holds close. I grew up in Boulder Colorado and pursued all fish, from the carp of Viele and the bass of Hayden to the reds of the Mosquito Lagoon. I frequently skipped school to go bass fishing but I eventually managed to get a graduate degree in Counseling Psychology from DU. I tied flies commercially in high school under the guidance of the great Charlie Craven. From an early age, time at the vice and on the water has helped me to develop and tweak patterns to the preference of local fish. Mesmerized by the fish below the dam, I cut my teeth fishing for technical trout when I was a boy. The truth now is that I enjoy getting out on our larger rivers and away from the crowds. I continue to guide and fish with many of the guides I grew up with, those guides who helped shape my ability on the river, as well as my attitude and etiquette. I look forward to every day on the water, guiding and teaching what was taught to me by the rivers and their fish, and the many anglers of our great fishing community.
